ARTOGETHER MEETING IN ISTANBUL

ARTOGETHER MEETING IN ISTANBUL

ArTogether Working Group Participants From Turkey Met in Istanbul!

ArTogether working group has been working on how workshops in museums and art spaces can be designed in order to address mixed and diverse group of children and adolescents speaking different languages and coming from different cultural and social backgrounds, including particularly children with experience of migration. Among the working group participants, specialists from Turkey came together in two separate meetings in Istanbul to discuss and further develop the project outputs.

Participants visited the Istanbul Archeological Museum on 12 June 2018 and developed ideas on how to utilise museum spaces in activity and workshop design. They also discussed the importance and benefits of working directly in museum spaces in close contact with the works and artifacts while developing content.

The toolbox to be created by the group will point the need of developing inclusive approaches in education by /through arts in museums and culture spaces. Two participants, Fisun Aykır and Cevdet Bayram, specialized on creative drama as artistic practice, developed activity drafts while visiting the Archeology Museum. Their activity content is based on creative drama as a tool to work with a piece of art in the museum.

ArTogether makes use of drama, music, dance and also drawing, painting and literature as artistic tools, to support children’s interaction with art pieces. One piece of art is chosen as the focal point of each session/workshop and several activities are developed around the artwork. As such children will have the chance to relate to cultural spaces through artistic practices while discovering ways of communication at different levels among themselves.

In their second meeting in 30 July 2018 at Kadıköy IDEA, participants worked and exchanged ideas on how, in practice, “working with a multilingual children group” will be reflected on their activity booklet in terms of 1- guiding the workshop set-up, 2- activity content and 3- facilitator’s instructions.

ArTogether participants from Turkey and Germany will all convene in Dortmund between 13-16 August, 2018 to elaborate on these topics and collectively craft new activity sets.
